In Satie | The Rite of Spring @ Shanghai International Dance Center

In Satie | The Rite Of Spring, is a double-bill production blending music and dance theater. First initiated in 2021, this world premiere at the Shanghai International Dance Center features a collaboration between Chinese classical musicians and Xie Xin Dance Theatre dancers.

In Satie-The Lightness

This segment features re-arranged versions of Satie’s Gymnopédies and Gnossiennes for piano and vibraphone by Fu Yifei. Choreographer Xie Xin seamlessly integrates musicians as part of the dance ensemble.

The Rite of the Spring – The Rising Road

Based on the original two-piano arrangement, Fu Yifei has re-imagined the orchestral percussion for a version featuring two pianists and two percussionists.

Since its 1913 debut, Stravinsky’s monumental score has inspired countless dance productions. Now, Xie Xin – already internationally recognized – takes on the challenge of creating a fresh and stunning interpretation of ‘La Sacre du Printemps,’ performed with this unique instrumental ensemble.

This production promises to be truly one-of-a-kind, showcasing innovative artistry in both music and dance.

Performed by the inimitable dancers of Hofesh Shechter Company, this thrilling new work delves deep into the world of fantasy and the subconscious, revealing fears, hopes, desires and a myriad of emotions that penetrates not only our dreams but also our waking thoughts – the mind is king.

The dancers’ bodies bring to life this interplay between poetry and reality, accompanied by a small band of musicians playing live to the backdrop of Shechter’s trademark cinematic sound-score, to create a powerful, sculptured setting to this dreamscape.

Wang Hanlin | Animal Capital @ Fotografiska Shanghai

Fotografiska Shanghai is proud to launch its Local Emerging Artists Project with the solo exhibition ‘Animal Capital’ by local artist Wang Hanlin.

As an extension of the global exhibition ‘The Pet Show’ opened at Fotografiska Shanghai in December (and is still running, see below), ‘Animal Capital’ uses the observation of pets as a starting point to examine humanity and explore the structure of human society.

Through this exhibition, Fotografiska aim to support local artists with innovative and distinctive artistic expressions, foster the diverse development and exchange of local art, and provide their audience with more fresh and profound artistic experiences.

The Pet Show @ Fotografiska Shanghai

‘The Pet Show,’ which will open soon on December 7, will showcase works by 24 artists that have all chosen to portray pets in different ways, the common factor being the great love the artists have for the pets.

With this exhibition, Fotografiska want to celebrate and acknowledge our constant companions, and their presence in art and popular culture. Our mutual dependence leads to the question, “Who owns whom?”
